4 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Different Parts of Karachi

The people of Karachi have had a frightening start to the weekend. On the night of Friday, March 14, 2026, a magnitude 4.0 earthquake rattled several areas of Pakistan’s largest city, sending residents rushing out of their homes in panic and fear.

Residents across several neighbourhoods of Karachi were gripped by fear on Friday when earthquake tremors shook parts of the city, forcing people to rush out of homes, offices and workplaces in panic. The National Seismic Monitoring Centre recorded the earthquake at a magnitude of 4.0 with a depth of 10 kilometres, with officials stating that the epicentre was located approximately 100 kilometres south of Karachi.

The tremors were felt in various localities including Landhi, Khurramabad, Malir, and Korangi. People came out of their homes in panic and started reciting verses from the Holy Quran. No loss of life or property was reported from any part of Karachi.

This is not an isolated incident. Karachi last experienced seismic activity on March 10, 2026, when a 3.2-magnitude quake shook parts of the city. Since June 2025, Karachi has felt dozens of minor to moderate tremors, highlighting the region’s ongoing seismic activity. Pakistan straddles the boundary where the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates meet, making the country susceptible to earthquakes.
