Zahid Hussain stands as a pillar in Pakistan’s fashion and footwear industry, serving as the Founder and CEO of Borjan, a beloved retail brand that has stepped into the hearts of millions since its launch in 1995. Under his leadership, Borjan has grown from a modest venture into the country’s fifth-largest footwear retailer, boasting over 145 outlets across 75 cities.
Born with a keen eye for innovation, Hussain holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Michigan Technological University in the USA. This global education blended seamlessly with his passion for business, leading him to establish the Rafum Group, a powerhouse managing 10 footwear and apparel brands, including stylish labels like Caanchi and Lugari. Borjan, the group’s flagship, specializes in trendy, affordable shoes for men, women, and kids, emphasizing quality and local craftsmanship.
Hussain’s journey isn’t just about sales; it’s about uplifting the sector. In 2021, he was elected Chairman of the Pakistan Footwear Manufacturing Association (PFMA), where he championed initiatives like the Italian-Pakistan Footwear Technology Center (IPFTC) and Pakistan Shoes Design Hub (PSDH). These projects aim to boost skills, create jobs, and position Pakistan as a global footwear exporter. “We must link industries for real growth,” he said.
His hands-on style shines in everyday wins, like presenting company cars to top employees, fostering a motivated team. Beyond boardrooms, Hussain supports sports and culture, sponsoring events such as the Borjan Punjab Polo Cup.
Today, as Borjan expands with brands like the sporty Nayza line, launched in 2018 to rival international giants, Hussain’s vision proves simple: Empower through fashion, one step at a time.
