Saudi Arabia’s national airline has introduced “The Coolest Ihram,” a new high-tech garment designed to keep pilgrims comfortable and cool during Hajj and Umrah.
This innovative clothing represents a significant step forward in modernizing traditional pilgrimage attire while maintaining its cultural and religious importance.
The Coolest Ihram was developed in partnership with the branding agency Landor and cooling fabric specialists brrr®. The team focused on creating a garment that can help worshippers cope with the extreme heat often experienced during the pilgrimage, making their rituals safer and more comfortable.
The design incorporates advanced cooling materials that regulate body temperature, allowing pilgrims to focus on their spiritual journey without being affected by high temperatures.
Traditionally, the ihram is a simple, two-piece garment worn by male pilgrims. While its design has remained largely unchanged for centuries, this new version combines tradition with technology, offering practical benefits without altering the garment’s religious significance.
By addressing the challenges of performing rituals in harsh weather, the Coolest Ihram aims to improve the overall experience of millions of pilgrims who travel to Mecca each year.
The project highlights how innovation and technology can be applied to cultural and religious practices in thoughtful ways. It also reflects a growing interest in designing clothing that meets modern needs while respecting tradition.
With the introduction of the Coolest Ihram, Saudi Arabia’s national airline has set a new benchmark in pilgrimage apparel.
This development is expected to inspire further innovations in garments for spiritual and practical purposes, making important religious rituals safer, more comfortable, and accessible for worshippers from around the world.
