Masjid al-Nabawi Muazzin Sheikh Faisal Recites Azaan for the Last Time Before His Death

Sheikh Faisal bin Abdul Malik Nauman, the beloved muezzin of Masjid al-Nabawi in Madinah, passed away on Monday, December 22, 2024, leaving the global Muslim community in mourning. His funeral prayer was held at the Prophet’s Mosque after Fajr on Tuesday, followed by burial at the historic Jannat al-Baqi cemetery.

Sheikh Faisal had been associated with Masjid al-Nabawi for nearly 25 years, since his appointment in 2001. His melodious and soulful voice became familiar to millions of worshippers who heard his call to prayer both in person and through worldwide broadcasts from the holy mosque.

The Masjid al-Nabawi shared a deeply moving video on social media showing Sheikh Faisal’s final adhan, which he recited on November 2, just weeks before his death. The recording has gone viral across platforms, with Muslims worldwide expressing their grief and offering prayers for his soul. In the video, Sheikh Faisal appears at peace as he calmly recites the adhan in his soulful voice.

Sheikh Faisal came from a family with a remarkable tradition of serving as muezzins at the Prophet’s Mosque. His father was appointed as muezzin at the young age of 14 and continued this duty until his death at over 90 years of age. His grandfather also held this honored position before him, making it a family legacy spanning generations.

The position of muezzin at Masjid al-Nabawi is regarded as one of the highest honors, as the call to prayer is heard daily by millions of people from across the globe. Sheikh Faisal fulfilled this sacred duty with dedication, discipline, and deep spirituality throughout his service.

Social media users have been sharing heartfelt tributes, remembering Sheikh Faisal for his humility, consistency, and devotion. The General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques offered prayers for his forgiveness and called upon Muslims worldwide to remember him in their supplications.
