Pakistani TV anchor and journalist Iqrar-ul-Hassan has sparked massive controversy with his recent statement about PTI chairman Imran Khan, suggesting that the former prime minister has completed his role and should now retire from politics. Hassan stated that Imran Khan is a “boomer,” claiming he’s too old now and must step aside for organic leadership growth, urging Gen Z to realize that Khan offers no hope of change.
In a strongly worded critique, Hassan claimed that “PTI, the way it is running, will never be able to secure Imran Khan’s release. Khan’s release can only be made possible by a new and organized national and public party”. He announced plans to launch his own political movement on January 15, 2026, focused on ending political victimization and empowering citizens.
Hassan criticized PTI for its internal divisions, aggressive social media culture, and what he called administrative failures during Khan’s tenure, stating: “Don’t expect PTI to secure Khan’s release even in the next 100 years”. He added that a party where members don’t trust each other cannot deliver results.
However, Hassan also acknowledged: “Imran Khan will not be with us forever. One day, you and I will also leave this world, but this nation will always remain. Have you ever thought about what comes after Khan?”, positioning his movement as future-oriented planning rather than opposition.
His statements have triggered fierce backlash from PTI supporters who view his stance as betrayal. Critics accuse Hassan of attempting to divide Khan’s support base, while his defenders argue he’s raising legitimate questions about succession planning and Pakistan’s political future beyond individual personalities.
The controversy intensifies as Khan remains imprisoned on multiple charges, with his party claiming political victimization while Hassan argues for new political alternatives.
