Pakistani YouTuber Maaz Safdar recently conducted an interesting social experiment by transforming his house help, Abdullah, into a “Golden Man”, a street performer painted entirely in gold who stands still like a living statue. The creative experiment reportedly helped Abdullah earn Rs. 500 in just one hour, sparking online conversations about innovative earning methods and the dignity of labor.
Maaz Safdar is a well-known Pakistani YouTuber born on May 15, 2001, with 4.5 million subscribers on his YouTube channel “Maaz Safdar World”. Known for his daily vlogs and creative content, he holds the distinction of maintaining a vlog for an entire year, setting a record in Pakistan.
The “Golden Man” concept isn’t new globally; street performers worldwide have earned money by painting themselves in metallic colors and standing motionless while passersby drop coins. However, Maaz’s experiment brought this concept to Pakistani streets, testing whether the public would support such creative performances.
The experiment raised important questions about alternative earning methods and public generosity. In one hour, Abdullah reportedly collected Rs. 500 from curious onlookers and generous donors, a respectable amount for street performance in Pakistan.
While some praised the creativity and opportunity it provided, others questioned whether it was appropriate to use household staff for content creation. The discussion highlighted ongoing debates about content boundaries and worker dignity in the influencer economy.
Maaz himself earns around fifty lakhs per month from YouTube, making him one of Pakistan’s highest-earning content creators. His experiments often blend entertainment with social commentary, attracting millions of viewers who appreciate his authentic, down-to-earth approach to vlogging.
