Over 15 Million Muslims Performed Umrah During the First 20 Days of Ramadan

Ramadan 2026 has made history in the most beautiful way possible. Muslims from every corner of the world have gathered in the holy city of Makkah in numbers never seen before, breaking all previous records of worship and devotion.

A combined total of 96.6 million worshippers and pilgrims passed through Masjid al-Haram in Makkah and Masjid an-Nabawi in Madinah during the first twenty days of Ramadan 1447 AH. At the Grand Mosque in Makkah, 57.5 million worshippers attended for the five daily prayers and Qiyam, with a further 15.6 million performing Umrah. Meanwhile, 21.1 million worshippers visited Masjid an-Nabawi in Madinah for daily prayers and Qiyam during the same period.

Over 1.7 million visitors came specifically to greet the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) at his blessed resting place, while 579,191 visited Ar-Rawdah Ash-Sharifa, the area between the Prophet’s tomb and his pulpit, described in a hadith as a garden from the gardens of Paradise.

Ramadan 2026 has shattered all previous records of worship. On just the fourth day of Ramadan alone, 904,000 people performed Umrah and offered prayers in a single day, the largest number of people ever to gather in a single mosque in one day in world history.

Saudi authorities had been preparing for this massive gathering for months. Roads near the mosque were reserved exclusively for pedestrians, and vehicular entry was completely banned. Medical teams were stationed everywhere, and security personnel were deployed at every step to ensure the safety and comfort of all pilgrims.

These figures represent an average of over 4.8 million people per day across both holy sites combined, a number that truly shows the power and devotion of the Muslim Ummah.
