Ramadan’s 27th Night: Man Climbs Slab at Masjid al-Haram

A video circulating widely on social media has shown a man climbing onto an elevated slab at Masjid al-Haram in Mecca during the spiritually significant 27th night of Ramadan, also known as Laylat al-Qadr or the Night of Power.

Masjid al-Haram, the Grand Mosque surrounding the Kaaba in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, is the holiest site in Islam. Every year during Ramadan, and especially on its last odd nights, millions of Muslims gather there for prayer, reflection, and worship. The 27th night is widely believed to be the most blessed night of the year, as it is associated with the first revelation of the Quran to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

The footage showed the individual standing on a raised platform or slab inside the mosque while large crowds of worshippers prayed below. Onlookers appeared stunned by the act.

Such behavior inside the Grand Mosque is considered highly inappropriate and disrespectful, particularly during peak worship moments when millions of devotees are gathered for prayer. Saudi authorities maintain strict security measures throughout the holy site, and incidents like this are rare.

The video prompted strong reactions online, with many Muslims expressing shock and disappointment. Authorities have not publicly commented on whether the individual was detained or removed. The incident highlighted the importance of maintaining decorum and respect within one of the world’s most sacred religious spaces, especially during Ramadan’s holiest final nights.
