Fahad Mustafa Breaks the Fair Skin Myth in Showbiz: “I’m Not Gora, But I Made It”

Pakistani superstar Fahad Mustafa sparked an important and much-needed conversation about colorism in the entertainment industry during his recent appearance on Waseem Badami’s popular talk show, Masoomana Show.

The actor was promoting his latest film Aag Lagay Basti Mein when an audience member asked whether having fair skin was necessary to become a hero or heroine in Pakistan’s showbiz world.

Fahad responded with confidence, stating clearly that he himself is not fair-skinned, and therefore, there is no such color preference that determines success. He said, “Main gora nahi hoon, lekin maine kaam kiya hai”.

He pointed to leading actors like Ahmed Ali Akbar, Saba Qamar, Sanam Saeed, and Sajal Aly as examples of performers who have achieved prominence without having fair skin, adding that complexion simply does not matter anymore.

His statement has been widely regarded as a strong message against the color prejudice present in the showbiz industry, and has become an encouraging example for youth that success depends on ability, not skin tone.

Fahad’s journey itself is proof of this. He first gained recognition in Sheeshay Ka Mahal in 2002, where, despite early reservations about his appearance, his talent was noticed, and he never looked back. From blockbuster films to the mega-hit drama Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum, he has dominated both the big and small screen for over two decades.

Fahad Mustafa’s remarks resonated widely, with many applauding him for addressing colorism and challenging outdated perceptions in the industry.
