“Gas Nahi Aati Magar Bill 26 Hazaar”: Sadia Imam Expresses Anger at Government

Pakistani actress and television host Sadia Imam became the voice of millions of ordinary citizens when she publicly expressed her anger over Pakistan’s ongoing energy crisis, receiving massive gas bills despite getting little to no actual gas supply at home.

Pakistan is currently experiencing one of its worst energy crises in history, triggered by the escalating conflict in the Middle East. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced sweeping emergency austerity and fuel conservation measures after disruptions in oil and gas supply caused by the US-Israel war on Iran.

The closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway for traded oil, placed Pakistan’s economy under direct threat, with the country facing the largest fuel price increase in its history.

LPG prices have soared sharply in Pakistan, putting household consumers under severe financial strain, with prices climbing steeply across all major cities.

For households connected to the national gas grid, the situation is equally absurd. Consumers across Lahore, Islamabad, and Karachi have been posting screenshots of gas bills ranging from Rs20,000 to Rs30,000 while their kitchens sit cold for days on end.

Non-protected category consumers face significantly higher rates, with progressive slab increases for higher consumption levels adding further burden.

Sadia Imam’s on-camera outburst, asking, “Am I eating gas?” struck a deep chord with citizens already struggling under record inflation. Her viral moment captured the exact frustration that millions of Pakistani families feel every single month when they open their utility bills.
