If you grew up in Pakistan, you know exactly what Ding Dong is. That little square bubble gum with the blue and yellow wrapper has been a part of childhood for millions of people across the country. For decades, its square shape was something nobody ever questioned, it was just Ding Dong, and that was that.
But recently, something changed. A picture going viral on Pakistani social media showed Ding Dong in a completely new look, it has now switched from its classic square shape to a rounded, twist-wrapped candy style.
The reaction was immediate. Actress like Saboor Aly posted a story with ding dong saying, “Kya se kya ho gaya”. People flooded comment sections with surprise, confusion, and a whole lot of nostalgia.
Ding Dong bubble gum is a product of Hilal Confectionery, one of Pakistan’s largest confectionery manufacturers and exporters, a company known for producing some of the most iconic sweets in the country.
Hilal Foods was founded in 1957 and has maintained its position as one of Pakistan’s most recognized food brands for over half a century, with its products sold both locally and internationally.
The new candy-style shape has divided public opinion. Some people feel the change is a smart, modern update that makes the gum easier to unwrap and eat.
Others, however, are not happy at all, for them, the square shape was not just packaging, it was memory. It reminded them of school tuck shops, pocket money, and simpler times.
Whether you love or hate the new look, one thing is clear, Ding Dong just made the biggest change in its history, and Pakistan is talking about it.
