Pakistani superstar, Mahira Khan, is riding high on the success of her latest film Aag Lagay Basti Mein, released on Eid ul Fitr 2026. After its warm reception, she took to social media to thank every single person involved in making it happen.
Mahira recalled how, when director Bilal Atif Khan first came to her with the project, she was “listening with my eyes wide open, laughing while he narrated it,” and initially told him she couldn’t do it because “no one will believe it or want to believe it.” The director insisted she was the only one for the role, and clearly, he was right.
Critics noted that Mahira finally shed the image of being too polished and stepped convincingly into a raw, unfiltered space in this film. She plays Almas, a maid with big dreams of going to Dubai, whose kleptomaniac tendencies pull her and her husband into a spiral of crime and comedy.
The film continues its theatrical run in its third week, playing across Pakistan and abroad in the US, UK, UAE, Canada, Qatar, Bahrain, and Oman.
In her note, Mahira gave special thanks to stylist Babar Zaheer, manager Anushay Khan, art director Hira M Saad, cinematographer Abid Rizvi, and co-star Javed Sheikh. She reserved her final words for producer and co-star Fahad Mustafa, praising his courage and generosity in making the film happen.
It was a rare and touching gesture from a superstar who knows that great work is always a team effort.
