Zayn Malik: “I’m Half Pakistani, It’s a Cool Thing to Represent and Educate People”

International music star Zayn Malik has once again spoken proudly about his Pakistani roots. In a recent interview, Malik revealed that being half Pakistani inspired him while making his new music, saying it is a “cool thing to be able to represent that and educate people.”

Zayn, who was born and raised in the UK, is of Pakistani descent and was raised Muslim by his parents. He rose to global fame as a member of the boy band One Direction before launching a very successful solo career.

His fifth studio album, KONNAKOL, was released on April 17, 2026, and draws heavily on South Asian cultural influences. According to Zayn, he wanted his music to stand out from other artists, and his Pakistani heritage gave him a unique identity to explore.

The former One Direction star had also previously collaborated with Pakistani pop band AUR on their hit song “Tu Hai Kahan,” which he said he joined because he genuinely loved the sound and the voices on the track.

Zayn’s openness about his Pakistani identity has made him a beloved figure in Pakistan. Fans across the country see him as a symbol of Pakistani pride on the global stage.
