A strange and frightening-looking statue found in Karachi’s Mehran Town recently sent shockwaves across social media, but police have now cleared up the whole mystery, and the truth behind it is very different from what people feared.
Police in Karachi resolved the mystery surrounding a statue with a satanic appearance that was recovered from a shop in the city’s Mehran Town area after a viral video triggered public concern. A video showing the statue, which resembled a devil-like figure, circulated widely on social media, prompting police to take immediate action.
Officers seized the statue and shifted it to a police station for investigation. Authorities later determined that the statue had been designed to resemble Baal, a figure from ancient Near Eastern religion, worshipped in parts of the Levant as a storm and fertility god.
The large white statue appeared to show a human male body with a bull’s head in a seated position. Many people who saw the viral video were alarmed, thinking it had some dark or satanic connection.
Following an initial inquiry, police officials revealed that the statue was constructed from thermocol and created by a local sculptor identified as Imran. During questioning, the sculptor stated that he had been commissioned to create the statue by Allama Shabbir Zaidi. According to the explanation provided to police, the statue had been prepared as part of a symbolic protest planned for Quds Day, an event observed annually in several countries to express solidarity with Palestinians.
Participants of the procession intended to burn the statue as a symbolic gesture during the planned Youm al-Quds on Jumatul Wida — the last Friday of the holy month of Ramazan. After recording a formal statement from the sculptor, the police decided to let him go. Radiance News
While police continue to review the matter, local debates have intensified over the symbolism and purpose of the statue. Officials emphasised that the investigation is ongoing and no legal action has yet been taken.
