Bab-ar-Rahman, The Door of the Kaaba, Is Made of Gold and Weighs 280 Kg

The door of the Holy Kaaba, known as Bab-ar-Rahman or the “Door of Mercy,” stands as one of the most magnificent and sacred structures in the Islamic world. Crafted from pure gold, this breathtaking masterpiece carries centuries of history, devotion, and extraordinary craftsmanship.

The door of the Kaaba is located on the north-eastern wall of the Holy Kaaba in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. It is also called Bab ar-Rahman, which literally means the “Door of Mercy.” Situated more than two metres above the ground, it serves as the sole entrance to Islam’s most sacred structure.

The entrance to the Holy Kaaba, known as Bab ar-Rahmah, is made from about 280 kg of pure gold with a very high quality of 99.99%. Without counting the gold, the door’s worth is around 13.42 million Saudi riyals, making it one of the most valuable doors in human history.

The design and manufacture of the current door were carried out on the directive of King Khalid bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in 1977, after he prayed at the Kaaba and observed traces of scratches on its door. The construction of the door took twelve months, with master jeweller Ahmad bin Ibrahim Badr overseeing its meticulous creation.

The golden door of the Kaaba is inscribed with verses from the Holy Quran. The top of each door is engraved with “Allah Jal Jalaalah Muhammad Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam”, while the sides feature the beautiful names of Allah arranged in circular panels.

The door measures 3.18 metres in length, 1.71 metres in width, and has a depth of around half a metre. It is typically kept locked and opened three times a year to wash its interior.

From the time of Hazrat Ibrahim to the present, different rulers have made changes to the door of the Kaaba from time to time. Historians say that when the Kaaba was first built, it had neither a door nor a roof, only walls were constructed.

Today, Bab-ar-Rahman stands as a timeless symbol of divine beauty, spiritual significance, and human devotion, welcoming millions of pilgrims who dream of standing before it at least once in their lifetime.
