Brazilian Soccer Star Kathleen Souza Reverts to Islam

Brazilian footballer Kathellen Sousa (also referred to as Kathleen Souza), the 29-year-old defender and captain of Al-Nassr Women’s team in Saudi Arabia, has embraced Islam in a deeply moving announcement that captured global attention in mid-February 2026.

The Al-Nassr Women’s club shared an emotional video on their official X (Twitter) account, celebrating her conversion. In the clip, Kathellen appeared tearful yet serene as she spoke about her journey: “I was just trying to find the right path and become the best version of myself.” The club wrote: “We share a special moment in her life with Kathleen Souza by announcing her conversion to Islam, and we ask God to grant her stability and fill her heart with peace and tranquility.”

Shortly after, Kathellen performed Umrah in Makkah during the first days of Ramadan 1447 Hijri. She shared photos and videos from the holy sites on her Instagram (@kathellensousa), showing her in ihram attire, praying at Masjid al-Haram, and reflecting on the profound spiritual experience. Her posts expressed gratitude and inner peace, resonating with fans who praised her courage.

Kathellen, from São Vicente, São Paulo, has been a key player for Brazil’s women’s national team and joined Al-Nassr in 2024 after stints at clubs like Real Madrid and Internacional.

Living in Saudi Arabia for nearly two years exposed her to Islamic culture, leading to this personal transformation. Her teammates welcomed her warmly, gathering to congratulate her with flowers and support, highlighting unity and sisterhood.

The news spread rapidly on social media, with positive reactions from Muslim communities worldwide. Many called it inspiring, noting how her story bridges sports, faith, and cultural understanding.

Kathellen’s reversion adds to a growing list of athletes finding spiritual fulfillment in Islam, proving that personal growth can happen on and off the field.
