Holy Quran Written on Silk A Masterpiece by Azerbaijan’s First Muslim Woman Artist

Azerbaijani artist Leyla Aliyeva, the country’s first known Muslim woman calligrapher, has created a stunning masterpiece: the entire Holy Quran handwritten on silk.

This rare and beautiful work was completed in 2025 and displayed publicly in early 2026, earning praise from art lovers and religious communities around the world.

Leyla, who learned traditional Arabic calligraphy and Islamic art for many years, used special silk fabric and natural inks to write all 114 chapters (surahs) of the Quran by hand.

The silk gives the pages a soft, glowing look, and her elegant script makes each verse easy to read yet full of artistic beauty. She spent several years on the project, working with great care and respect for the holy text.

This is believed to be one of the first full Qurans written on silk by a woman in modern times. In Islamic tradition, calligraphy is a high form of art, and writing the Quran by hand is considered an act of deep devotion. Leyla’s work combines old techniques with her own creative style, making it both spiritual and modern.

The project gained attention on social media, with photos and videos shared on Instagram and Facebook. People called it “a true masterpiece” and “a gift to the Muslim world.” Many praised Leyla for breaking barriers as a woman artist in a field often led by men, showing that talent and faith have no gender limits.

Her Quran on silk is now seen as a symbol of beauty, patience, and love for the Quran. It inspires young artists, especially women, to explore Islamic calligraphy. Leyla hopes her work brings people closer to the Quran’s message of peace and guidance.

This masterpiece reminds everyone that art can honor faith and touch hearts across cultures and generations.
