A video clip of a Pakistani Islamic scholar went viral on social media in late February 2026, where he claims that Pakistan cricket captain Babar Azam is under the influence of black magic.
The scholar, speaking during a live religious program, said Babar’s recent poor form, repeated dismissals, and “strange” behavior on the field are not normal. He suggested that someone had performed black magic on Babar to harm his performance and bring bad luck to the Pakistan team.
The scholar explained that black magic can cause sudden failure, confusion, and loss of confidence in a person. He pointed to Babar’s dip in form since late 2025, low scores in T20Is, Tests, and ODIs, as proof. He advised Babar and his family to recite specific Quranic verses (like Ayat-ul-Kursi, Surah Al-Falaq, and Surah An-Nas), perform ruqyah (spiritual healing), and visit a trusted spiritual healer to remove the supposed curse.
The claim quickly spread on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and WhatsApp groups. Many cricket fans laughed at it, calling it “funny” or “ridiculous,” while some superstitious viewers agreed and shared their own stories of black magic affecting sports stars. Others defended Babar, saying his form is due to technical issues, pressure, and team problems, not magic.
Babar Azam has not commented on the claim. Pakistan Cricket Board sources say he is focused on training and upcoming matches. Cricket experts and former players have dismissed the black magic theory, calling it baseless and unfair to the player.
This is not the first time black magic rumors have appeared in Pakistani cricket. Similar claims were made about players like Shahid Afridi and Inzamam-ul-Haq in the past. The incident shows how superstition mixes with sports in Pakistan, especially during tough times for the national team.
While some find it entertaining, most fans hope Babar returns to his best form through hard work rather than spiritual cures.
