Mufti Tariq Masood’s Viral Ruling: YouTube Earnings Are Halal If Your Content Is Halal

One of Pakistan’s most followed Islamic scholars, Mufti Tariq Masood, has once again sparked widespread debate with his clear and straightforward ruling on YouTube earnings, a topic that millions of Pakistani content creators and viewers have been searching for a definitive answer on.

Mufti Tariq Masood stated plainly: “If you show permissible things on YouTube, the income earned from it is also permissible. And if you show impermissible things, then the income from it is also impermissible.” The ruling was simple and direct, and it instantly resonated with Pakistan’s enormous digital creator community.

In 2024, Mufti Tariq Masood publicly disagreed with Indian preacher Zakir Naik on YouTube monetisation, stating that income from lawful content is halal, while revenue connected to prohibited products should be given to charity.

According to an earlier fatwa, content creators should not excessively seek to multiply earnings, especially when they have no control over the nature of ads. Since one cannot guarantee that all promotional content will be pure or ethical, donating a portion of ad earnings to charity is recommended to purify such income.

Mufti Tariq Masood’s Speeches have become a significant force in the digital landscape, captivating audiences with insightful content on Islamic teachings and drawing millions of viewers seeking guidance and knowledge. His channel’s net worth is estimated to be around $1.7 million.

His guidance has brought enormous relief to Pakistani YouTubers who create halal content, from cooking and travel to religious teachings, and were unsure whether their platform income was permissible under Islamic law.
