“Our Kaptaan Deserves Dignity, Care, and Basic Human Rights”: Maya Ali

Pakistani actress Maya Ali has joined the growing chorus of celebrity voices speaking out for imprisoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan, posting an emotional message on Instagram demanding proper medical treatment and basic human rights for the PTI founder following reports of his severe vision loss.

Posting a carousel of screenshots related to Imran, Maya penned in the caption, “The man who dreamed of a ‘NAYA PAKISTAN’ is today losing his eyesight. The one who always put humanity and his people first is now being denied even basic human necessities”.

The 36-year-old actress’s heartfelt appeal continued: “We are not asking for privilege, only for humanity and justice for our leader, our KAPTAAN. Give him his freedom, give him proper medical care, and give him the dignity and basic rights that belong to every human being. No one should be denied compassion when their health and humanity are at stake”. She concluded with the hashtag #FreeMyLeader.

One of the pictures in the Instagram post highlighted Imran Khan’s deteriorating health in jail, including an image that showed that he has lost 85 percent vision in his right eye, allegedly due to being denied timely treatment and medical attention.

Maya Ali has consistently been a vocal supporter of Imran Khan throughout his political journey. This isn’t the first time she has publicly backed him, when Khan faced arrest in May 2023, she called it “ridiculous” and declared it a “Black Day for the nation.”

Her latest post comes as Pakistan’s Supreme Court ordered a specialized medical team to examine Khan’s eye condition after reports emerged about his partial vision loss due to central retinal vein occlusion. The 72-year-old has been imprisoned in Adiala Jail since August 2023.

Maya Ali’s emotional appeal for compassion and basic human rights reflects growing concerns among Khan’s supporters about his deteriorating health conditions in detention.
