The Pakistan Air Force has made a significant leadership move by appointing Air Vice Marshal Aurangzeb Ahmed as the new Commander of the Air Force Strategic Command, one of the most important and sensitive positions within the entire PAF structure.
The appointment was officially announced from PAF headquarters in Islamabad. The role sits at the heart of Pakistan’s aerial strategic operations and marks a key leadership change at a time of rapidly evolving regional security challenges.
A two-star officer, Aurangzeb Ahmed previously served as Director General Public Relations and held the position of Deputy Chief of Air Staff Operations. He was commissioned in the General Duty pilot branch back in 1992 and has since built a long and impressive career spanning both operational command and high-level strategic planning.
Throughout his career he has commanded a fighter squadron and an operational air base, and also served in Saudi Arabia as Contingent Commander of a Pakistan Aeronautical Complex team.
AVM Aurangzeb rose to national prominence during the 2025 India-Pakistan conflict, where his press briefings were marked by clarity, composure, and confidence, winning him widespread respect and a massive public following across Pakistan.
His service has been recognised through prestigious military honours, including the Sitara-e-Imtiaz Military and Tamgha-e-Imtiaz Military awards.
Academically, he holds a master’s degree in Military Arts from China and another in National Security and War Studies from Pakistan’s National Defence University, a combination that makes him particularly well suited to lead the country’s most strategically sensitive air command.
His appointment sends a clear signal that Pakistan is focused on strengthening its strategic air defence capabilities with experienced and battle-tested leadership at the top.
