Pakistan Hindu Community Announces No Celebration of Holi This Year in Mourning For Ayatollah Khamenei

The Hindu community in Pakistan has decided not to celebrate Holi this year as a mark of respect and mourning for the late Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The announcement came from Hindu leaders and temple committees in cities like Karachi, Lahore, and Tharparkar in early March 2026, shortly after Ayatollah Khamenei’s reported martyrdom.

Community elders said they feel deep sadness over the loss of Ayatollah Khamenei, whom they see as a strong voice for justice, peace, and support for oppressed people around the world, including Palestinians. They explained that Holi is a festival of joy and colors, but this year their hearts are heavy.

Instead of playing with colors, singing, and meeting friends, they will hold quiet prayers, Quran and Gita recitations, and special gatherings to remember Ayatollah Khamenei and pray for peace in Iran and the Muslim world.

This decision shows the close interfaith harmony in Pakistan. Hindu leaders said they share the pain of their Muslim brothers and sisters and want to stand with them during this difficult time. Many mosques and religious groups welcomed the gesture, calling it a beautiful example of unity and brotherhood.

Social media posts from Hindu families and temples received praise from people of all faiths. Comments included “Respect for this kind step,” “True humanity,” and “Pakistan Zindabad.” Some shared messages saying that real festivals are about love and respect for others, not just celebrations.

The Hindu community in Pakistan has a long tradition of supporting neighbors during religious events. They often join Muslims in Ramadan prayers or help during Muharram. This year’s quiet Holi is another sign of that strong bond.

The community hopes their small act of mourning brings comfort to Iranians and shows the world that Pakistan’s people stand together in times of sorrow.
