Saudi Arabia has set a new historic record as more than 904,000 pilgrims performed Umrah at the Grand Mosque in Makkah on Saturday, February 21, 2026 — the 4th of Ramzan 1447 AH. This is the highest single-day attendance ever documented at Masjid al-Haram. The Islamic Information
The 904,000 figure includes those performing Umrah, attending the five daily prayers, and engaging in voluntary worship such as Taraweeh and Quran recitation. The milestone came during the first weekend of Ramzan, when Muslims from all over the world travel to Makkah for worship and spiritual reflection.
Last year, the previous record was set on March 7 with around 500,000 Umrah pilgrims, meaning this year’s number nearly doubled that figure, showing just how fast pilgrim numbers are growing.
The General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques said the figure highlights the intensity of demand, supported by an integrated system of services to ensure smooth movement and comfort for worshippers.
To manage such a large crowd safely, the white marble area closest to the Kaaba, known as the Mataf, has been reserved exclusively for Umrah pilgrims so that tawaf can be completed smoothly without obstruction. Separate facilities have been arranged for the elderly and persons with disabilities, including electronic carts available on the first floor.
Direct bus services are operating from King Abdulaziz International Airport, and the Haramain High-Speed Railway brings pilgrims to Rusayfah Station, from where shuttle buses are available round the clock.
The record attendance is expected to be surpassed again as Ramzan progresses, particularly during the last ten days when Laylat al-Qadr draws even larger crowds. Saudi Arabia aims to welcome 30 million Umrah pilgrims annually by 2030.
