Saudi Arabia has announced a complete ban on photography and video recording inside Masjid al Haram in Makkah and Masjid an Nabawi in Madinah. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah shared this decision to protect the peace and respect of both holy sites.
Officials say that taking selfies, making group videos, or recording inside the mosques was creating problems. It caused crowding, blocked pathways, and disturbed people who were offering prayers. Some worshippers also felt their privacy was being affected.
The new rule will be strictly followed. Security staff inside the mosques will guide visitors and make sure no one uses cameras or mobile phones for photography. The purpose is simple, to keep the environment calm, respectful, and focused on worship. Authorities want every pilgrim to have a peaceful spiritual experience without distractions.
The ban will also apply to key areas along the Hajj route. During Hajj, thousands of people pass through narrow and busy spaces. Photography often slows down movement and leads to delays and safety issues. By stopping recording in these areas, the government hopes to maintain discipline and improve the overall flow of pilgrims.
Saudi Arabia has reminded visitors that the holy mosques are places for prayer and reflection. They encourage everyone to respect the rules and think of the comfort of others. Pilgrims can still take pictures in public areas outside the main prayer halls where it is allowed.
With this step, the Kingdom aims to protect the dignity of the two sacred mosques and ensure a smooth experience for all who visit.
