Saudi Arabia Hosts 1.68 Million Umrah Pilgrims During Ramadan 2026

Ramadan 2026 has been nothing short of historic for Saudi Arabia, as Masjid Al-Haram in Makkah welcomed a record-breaking number of Umrah pilgrims from around the world during the holiest month of the year.

The Grand Mosque witnessed an unprecedented gathering on Saturday, 4 Ramadan 1447 AH, with 904,000 worshippers and Umrah pilgrims recorded inside Masjid Al-Haram in a single day. This is the highest single-day attendance ever documented at Masjid Al-Haram.

When millions dressed in white circle the Kaaba, it feels as though the entire world has converged on a single centre. Saudi authorities had been preparing for this for months. Roads near the mosque have been reserved exclusively for pedestrians to control the crowds, and vehicular entry has been completely banned.

Saudi Arabia rolled out comprehensive guidelines to preserve safety, security, and smooth movement of Umrah performers during Ramadan 1447 AH. Mosque entrances now feature digital indicators guiding worshippers to available prayer areas, green for open access, red for full capacity.

The new set of Umrah season 2026 regulations has been released in 16 international languages, with digital crowd management facilities in place to handle the influx of millions of devotees to the Grand Mosque.

Religious tourism contributes roughly $12 billion annually to Saudi Arabia’s economy, making up nearly 20% of the non-oil economy. Saudi Arabia’s goal is to welcome 30 million Umrah pilgrims annually by 2030.

The scenes of millions of worshippers performing Tawaf around the Kaaba, offering prayers, and raising their hands in dua during Ramadan 2026 served as a powerful reminder of Islam’s unity, a sea of white filling every corner of the holiest mosque on earth.
