Saudi Arabia has strengthened security around the Holy Kaaba and Masjid Al-Haram in Makkah as millions of Muslims arrive for Umrah and prepare for Hajj in 2026. The new measures started in late February 2026 during Ramadan to keep pilgrims safe and maintain peace in the holy sites.
The Saudi government has added more security cameras, advanced face-recognition technology, and extra police and security guards. They also use drones to watch large crowds from above. Entry points now have stricter checks with metal detectors, bag scanning machines, and ID verification. Only people with valid permits can enter certain areas, and vehicles near the mosque face tight controls.
These steps came after recent global security concerns and the large number of visitors during Ramadan. Saudi authorities want to prevent any risks, such as overcrowding accidents or other threats. The General Directorate of Public Security and the Ministry of Interior are working together to make sure everything runs smoothly.
Pilgrims have welcomed the changes, saying they feel safer while praying and performing Tawaf. Many shared on social media that the extra security helps them focus on worship without worry. Officials said the measures will continue through Ramadan and increase closer to the Hajj season.
The Holy Kaaba and Masjid Al-Haram welcome millions every year. Strong security allows people from all over the world to visit safely and complete their religious duties in peace. Saudi Arabia says protecting these holy places and the pilgrims is their top priority.
These efforts show the country’s commitment to keeping Makkah secure, organized, and spiritual for everyone who comes to pray.
