Shah Rukh Khan Refused Interest Money, Calling It “Haram”

Shah Rukh Khan is loved by millions not just for his acting, but also for the kind of person he is off-screen. A heartwarming story about the Bollywood superstar has gone viral, reminding the world of his deep values and quiet generosity.

In an interview with Pinkvilla in 2025, late filmmaker Ravi Chopra’s wife, producer Renu Chopra, recalled how Shah Rukh Khan supported her son Abhay Chopra’s directorial debut, Ittefaq (2017), during a very difficult time. She shared that when she reached out to SRK, he showed immense respect and kindness.

Renu Chopra said, “We were going to make Ittefaq, and we decided that we will make the film with Shah Rukh Khan. I said I don’t have money. So he said, ‘I will invest.’ I said my children will make a good film.” She further revealed, “Shahrukh had not even read the story. When the shooting of the film was over, the financier had to pay the interest money. When we tried to give this interest money to Shahrukh, he said that it is haram for me, I cannot take it.”

Chopra praised Khan for his generosity in financing her son’s directorial debut despite her financial struggles at the time, noting that Khan stepped in to support the 2017 neo-noir thriller even without reading the script.

Renu also shared that Shah Rukh visited her home when her husband Ravi Chopra was ill, coming personally just to ask about his health and offering his full sympathy.

This story shows that Shah Rukh Khan’s greatness goes far beyond the big screen. His willingness to help a friend without expecting anything in return, and his firm moral stand on not accepting interest, reflects a rare combination of humanity, faith, and true friendship. It is no wonder that fans around the world love him not just as a superstar but as a genuinely good human being.
