Talha Anjum Calls Out Karachi’s University Road Problem

Pakistani rapper Talha Anjum, one of the biggest music stars in the country today, recently took a light-hearted yet pointed swipe at Karachi’s infrastructure woes. In a social media post directed at Sindh Governor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, Talha wrote: “Strait of Hormuz khul gaya hai sir, ab University Road ka bhi kuch karein please.” The comment pointed out the irony that a major international waterway had reopened while one of Karachi’s busiest roads remained under construction.

Talha Anjum, born in 1995 in Karachi, is a rapper and songwriter known for being a co-founder of the hip-hop duo Young Stunners. He is known for using street language, local humour, and social commentary in his lyrics to connect with younger audiences.

According to the 2024 Spotify Wrapped, he became the most-streamed local artist in Pakistan. His deep connection to Karachi has always been central to his identity and music. Songs like Karachi Mera and Karachi Chal reflect his pride and love for the city, which makes his frustration with University Road’s prolonged construction all the more relatable to fans.

The comment amused thousands of Karachiites, who have long suffered through traffic chaos caused by ongoing development projects on the road. Talha once again proved that he speaks the language of the common people, mixing global awareness with hyper-local issues.
