While The World Boycotts McDonald’s over its Support of Israel, Express TV’s Ramadan Transmission is Sponsored by the Same McDonald’s

Express TV has faced strong backlash for sponsoring its Ramadan transmission with McDonald’s, even as the fast-food chain is boycotted worldwide for supporting Israel. The show, hosted by Javeria Saud, started in February 2026 during Ramadan. Many viewers and social media users are upset, calling it wrong to partner with a brand linked to the Gaza conflict.

The global boycott of McDonald’s began after its Israeli franchise donated free meals and drinks to Israeli soldiers during the war in Gaza. This move led to protests and sales drops in many countries, including Muslim nations like Jordan, where a branch closed due to the boycott. Groups like BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) urge people to avoid companies that support Israel’s actions, and McDonald’s has lost billions in revenue since 2024.

In Pakistan, the sponsorship has sparked anger online. Posts on Instagram, Facebook, and X show users saying things like “Boycott Express TV” and “How can a Ramadan show promote a brand that supports oppression?”

One viral Instagram reel called it “shameful,” pointing out the contrast between Ramadan’s spirit of peace and the sponsorship. Critics argue it’s insensitive during a holy month when Muslims focus on charity and justice.

Express TV has not responded publicly yet. The issue highlights how global events affect local media and consumer choices. Many Pakistanis join the boycott by avoiding McDonald’s, choosing local options instead.
