World’s Largest Copy of the Holy Quran Unveiled at Umayyad Mosque on Laylat Al Qadr 2026, Written by 33 Calligraphers

In a remarkable moment of cultural and religious significance, the world’s largest handwritten copy of the Holy Quran was unveiled at the historic Umayyad Mosque in Damascus during Laylat Al Qadr 2026. The monumental achievement was the result of painstaking work by 33 skilled calligraphers who dedicated themselves to producing this extraordinary manuscript.

The Umayyad Mosque, located in the old city of Damascus, Syria, is one of the largest and oldest mosques in the world and is considered the oldest mosque still in use in its original form. Choosing this landmark as the home for the world’s largest Quran was a deeply symbolic decision, honoring both the mosque’s historic role in Islamic civilization and the sanctity of the occasion.

Laylat Al Qadr, the Night of Destiny, is the night commemorating the first Quranic revelation to the Prophet Mohammed and is described in the Quran as better than a thousand months. According to Islamic scholars and astronomical calculations, the 27th night of Ramadan in 2026 fell on the night beginning after sunset on Monday, March 16, 2026.

The unveiling drew large crowds of worshippers and onlookers who gathered to witness the historic moment. The giant Quran stands as a testament to the dedication of Islamic calligraphy as a sacred art form, and its display during the holiest night of Ramadan made the occasion even more spiritually profound for Muslims around the world.
