After 45 Years as Priest in Australian Church, Gould David Embraces Islam And Becomes Abdul Rehman

In a story that has moved people around the world, Australian Orthodox Christian priest Gould David announced his conversion to Islam after dedicating 45 years of his life to the Church. The highly respected priest, who was residing in Tasmania, changed his name to Abdur Rahman following his conversion. The news was widely shared by renowned Islamic scholar Dr Muhammad Salah of Huda TV.

His journey to Islam began during a trip to Perth to attend his brother-in-law’s funeral. When he booked a hotel, he discovered it was only 150 yards from Perth’s main mosque. Walking past it, he felt a deep pull to go inside, where he met the imam who gifted him a copy of the Quran.

That night changed everything. He returned to his hotel room, knelt, and sincerely asked God to show him the absolute truth, whether Islam was true or false, whether Christianity was right or wrong.

He shared that as soon as he opened the Holy Book, he felt this was the right religion. He later recited his Shahadah and entered the fold of Islam as Abdur Rehman.

As a former priest, Gould found comfort in the fact that accepting Islam did not mean abandoning Jesus or Mary, but rather placing them in their correct relationship to Allah.

His story has inspired countless people worldwide, proving that the search for truth has no boundaries and that faith can lead even the most devoted servant of one religion to a completely new spiritual path.
