There Is an Island in Balochistan That Could Rival the Maldives: Mohsin Naqvi

Pakistan’s Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has made a bold claim about tourism potential in Balochistan, Pakistan’s largest but least developed province.

Speaking to business leaders in Karachi, Naqvi pointed to tourism potential in Balochistan, particularly Astola Island, which he said could rival international destinations if developed properly. He indicated that the government would engage with provincial leadership to promote investment through roadshows and infrastructure development.

The Interior Minister spoke about potential tourism development in Balochistan, saying island resort projects could make the region an international destination, and announced plans to visit the province soon to review proposals.

Astola Island, also known as “Jezira Haft Talar” or Island of the Seven Hills, lies in the Arabian Sea off the coast of Balochistan. It is Pakistan’s largest offshore island and is known for its clear blue waters, marine life, and natural beauty, but it remains largely undeveloped and difficult to access.

Naqvi made these remarks while urging Pakistani businesspeople to bring back overseas wealth and invest locally. He assured the business community that Pakistan offers some of the highest returns on investment globally and stressed that creating a business-friendly environment was a top priority.

While the vision for Balochistan’s tourism sounds impressive, the province continues to face serious security and infrastructure challenges. Experts note that lasting peace and proper investment in roads, facilities, and safety are needed before such ambitious tourism dreams can become reality.
