Iqrar Ul Hassan Leaves ARY, Sacrifices Career for Awam Raj Party

Well-known investigative journalist and TV anchor Iqrar Ul Hassan has made one of the boldest moves of his career, leaving ARY News and entering the world of politics.

Iqrar-ul-Hassan, the host of ARY News’ “Sar-e-Aam,” officially launched a new political movement called Awam Raj Tehreek (People’s Rule Movement) on January 15, 2026.

The announcement was made during a press conference held at the Lahore Press Club, where Iqrar made it clear that he would never accept any political or government position, saying: “I swear by Allah and His Prophet that I will not hold any position at the party or government level.”

He stated that the party’s activities will begin across Pakistan soon, describing Pakistan Awam Raj Tehreek as a democratic platform belonging to the people, arguing it would not be controlled by any single individual or family, nor would its leadership be inherited.

In an emotional statement, Iqrar said he does not know how he will manage his own household finances, but he has sacrificed his career at ARY for the sake of the nation’s children and the common people of Pakistan.

The movement aims to establish a democratic platform owned by the people of Pakistan, with leadership roles decided through internal elections and merit rather than family connections.

Public reaction has been mixed, many admire his courage, while critics question whether a journalist can successfully navigate Pakistan’s complex political landscape.
