PEMRA Issues Show Cause Notice to 24 News Over Viral Clip of Fiza Ali

Pakistan’s media regulator, PEMRA (Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority), has issued a formal show cause notice to 24 News following a viral clip from the morning show “Morning with Fiza,” hosted by actress and television host Fiza Ali.

The controversy began when Fiza Ali’s husband, Ejaz Khan, made a surprise appearance on her show. During a lighthearted segment, their daughter asked Khan to lift Fiza the same way he does at home. He agreed and lifted Ali over his shoulder live on air, while their daughter laughed.

The clip spread rapidly on social media, triggering strong reactions from the public and prominent figures. Punjab Women Protection Authority Chairperson Hina Parvez Butt termed the act “shameful” and “inappropriate,” saying such behavior does not suit a public broadcast platform, and urged PEMRA to take immediate notice and hold those responsible accountable.

Fiza Ali defended the clip, describing it as a “lighthearted, spontaneous gesture” that was never intended to offend, and reaffirmed her commitment to professionalism and respect for her audience.

Media analysts warned that without accountability, such episodes will continue to surface, raising questions about the erosion of media ethics. Critics pointed out that previous controversies involving Fiza Ali also went unchecked, drawing attention but no regulatory response.

The PEMRA notice has summoned the CEO of City News Network (24 News) for a hearing. The incident has reignited a broader national conversation about content standards, editorial responsibility, and the role of morning shows in shaping public values.
