“It Took Me 45 Seconds to Send My Resignation Letter”: Iqrar Ul Hassan

In a stunning development that shook Pakistan’s media world, veteran investigative journalist and television anchor Iqrar ul Hassan announced his resignation from ARY News on April 16, 2026, after a career spanning 21 years. In an emotional Instagram video, he said his journey with ARY had ended, and confirmed he had submitted his resignation to ARY chairman Salman Iqbal with a heavy heart.

Iqrar began his journey at ARY in 2005 when he traveled from a small village in Faisalabad to Lahore for an open audition, where out of thousands of applicants, only two were selected, and he was one of them. He rose to national fame through his hard-hitting investigative show Sar-e-Aam, which exposed corruption, bribery, and social injustice across Pakistan.

He recently launched a political movement called Awam Raj, and ultimately chose his political mission over his journalism career. He openly admitted he has no significant savings and is unsure about future income, but remains committed to his mission.

His resignation sparked an enormous reaction on social media. Many praised his courage and dedication, while others warned him about the difficulties of Pakistani politics. The son of an imam, with no reference and no shortcut, has always chosen his own road, and this latest decision is no different. His departure leaves a noticeable gap in investigative journalism in Pakistan.
